Whew! Talk about a couple of hectic weekends here
on Coe’s campus!! Over the last two weekends
I have had the privilege of meeting and getting to know a ton of future Kohawks
while they were on campus to compete for additional scholarship
opportunities! It was awesome to see
such a great turn out for the two weekends despite Mother Nature sending more
snow our way for the first of the two weekends.
I was even more impressed when I would meet students from all over the
country and was glad that they were able to make it to campus safely!
Throughout
the two weekends, I was primarily in charge of taking groups of students
out on
residence hall tours, showing all the awesome living options that Coe
College
has to offer. All of the tours went
great and everyone seemed really excited to be on campus and I can feel
safe in
saying that I met a lot of future Kohawks in the many groups I toured
those
days. However, there was one moment
where I was tripped up and almost a little disappointed in myself.
Towards the end of one of the tours that I
gave, a student caught me off guard when I asked if there were any final
questions by asking “What’s the capital of South Dakota?” What a doozy
of a question! I was at a loss for words. It has probably been 8 years
or more since I have
taken a geography class and I just could not even take a guess what the
capital
of South Dakota is! I guess I need to
brush up on my geography knowledge for future tours, or maybe do some
traveling
to get some hands on experience with the matter. I think I like the
traveling idea little
better!
