Having lived in Iowa for my entire life, I have pretty well
gotten used to the harsh Iowa winters and all the cold and snow that come with
living in Iowa during the winter months.
We are now over half way through the month of March and are still seeing
cold temperatures and patchy snow from time to time! I want to know, when is it ever going to
end?!
Snow was always provided many outdoor activities when going
through elementary school and everyone seemed to really enjoy the snow. Now that I have gotten older, I have realized
why my parents always groaned at the site of the first winter snow fall. Winter just never seems to end, and if
anything, seems to get longer and longer every year!
In high school, Iowa high schools play baseball during the
summer months, which is really convenient in having the ability to get the field
well prepared for the upcoming season.
However, college baseball takes place during the early spring months
when Iowa’s winter may still be in full effect, so it is much harder to prepare
the fields for play. We have already had
a weekend double header cancelled, as well as our first conference double
headers against Simpson changed to only two games at Simpson instead of four
here at Coe! There is nothing worse than
telling a group of passionate baseball players that their season is being
shortened because Mother Nature is being unreasonable!
Hopefully someone can talk some sense into that lady so we
can start enjoying warmer weather! Sorry
for the rant, but it’s been bottled up for awhile! Pray for spring!
